SUMMARY: Serves patients by preparing medications; giving pharmacological information to multidisciplinary health care team; monitoring patient drug therapies.

Job Description/Duties

  • Prepares medications by reviewing and interpreting physician orders; detecting therapeutic incompatibilities.
  • Dispenses medications by packaging and labeling pharmaceuticals.
  • Controls medications by monitoring drug therapies; advising interventions.
  • Completes pharmacy operational requirements by organizing and directing technicians’ work flow
  • Verify prescription preparation and labeling of pharmaceuticals; verify order entries
  • Provides thorough documentation
  • Provides pharmacological information by answering questions and requests of health care professionals
  • Counsel patients on drug therapies and demonstrate use of devices as needed.
  • Answer phone calls and appropriately address/direct patient and medical provider needs
  • Develops clinical staff’s pharmacological knowledge by participating in clinical programs
  • Training pharmacy staff, students, interns, externs, residents, and other health care professionals.
  • Complies with state and federal drug laws as regulated by the state board of pharmacy, the drug enforcement administration, and the Food and Drug Administration by maintaining records for controlled substances
  • Removing outdated and damaged drugs from the pharmacy inventory
  • Supervise the work results of support personnel
  • Study existing and new legislation
  • Advise management on needed actions.
  • Protects patients and technicians by adhering to infection-control protocols.
  • Maintains safe and clean working environment by complying with procedures, rules, and regulations.
  • Maintains contact with other departments, medical staff, and nursing staff to determine needs, resolve problems
  • Adhere to all guidelines set forth in the pharmacy policies and procedures
  • Adheres to standard procedures at The Chautauqua Center
  • Attend meetings as directed
  • Availability to work variable hours including evenings or Saturdays as needed
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications and Experience

  • Maintain current NY Pharmacist license
  • Certification to administer immunizations in NY
  • Experience with the 340B Drug Discount Program
  • Must be organized and able to work independently under direction of Pharmacy Director.
  • Ability to travel to both Jamestown location and Dunkirk location
  • Must exhibit a high degree of professional excellence, initiative, and a high standard of ethics.
  • Must be physically able to stand for a long period of time and lift moderate weights.
  • Exceptional networking and negotiations skills
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment
  • Ability to adapt to evolving environment and tasks
  • Fluency in Spanish/English highly desirable
  • Ability to utilize sound judgment and independent thinking
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Maintain confidentiality and comply with Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA)
  • Ability to establish and maintain positive and effective work relationships
  • Maintain project plans with high-level of accuracy in Word, PowerPoint, Excel and pharmacy software systems
  • Ability to drive and current NYS driver’s license
